What would be the towing capacity on an EA81 brumby? Ive given the handbooks and internet a search over.
The car is in good working order and has a weber carby, Altough it has 14' wheels with taller tyres that i think will affect its chances.

I got a new boat and it weighs about 750kg, i towed it home with my dads Pajero but im wondering how the brumby would cope if i want to tow it with that. The trailer has brakes so that helps.
Whay have you guys towed with your subys?
I know giving it a go is the best way to test but im not too keen on getting caught out half way up a hill.
thanks guys.

First off, legally you cannot tow anything over 750kg without trailer brakes anywhere in Australia.

There isn't a figure given for the old models. So as far as I know in SA this means it goes to the default, 1500kg max with brakes, 750kg without. This is quite ridiculous though. I wouldn't tow more then 750kg with trailer brakes. For short trips maybe 750kg unbraked would be ok but nothing over 60kph. Long, unbraked, trips I'd stick with nothing over 550kg just for the motors sake.

The trailer does have brakes but they aren't the electric type, they are the mechanical ones, when the car slows the trailer pushes onto the towbar and engages the trailer brakes.

yeah i've towed my little 13ft fibreglass boat noworries. the worst i prob. towed was when i helped a mate move we had a fully loaded cage-trailer and had a commadore v6 engine and trans in the back of the brumby. it did struggle up the hill though.
Maybe just run around the block with the boat on the back and see how it goes.

With weight, power is not the issue, control and braking is. So don't worry about having to crawl up hills at 40kph, worry about what happens on the other side down hill! Trailer fishtailing down a hill is fucking scary. Brakes make it worse, throttle makes it worse and all you can do is hold on until the bottom.

towed the boat,
went around some streets and up a reasonable hill and it coped ok,
struggled a little with pace but it could still hold its own,
braking was fine, its stopped better than i would have thought,
taking it on a long trip to the river tomorrow so hope for the best.

It went quite well,
I had to use low range to pull it out of the water on the boat ramp, but it did that fine.
I don't think it would be up to any sort of freeway/long distance driving that would be cruel to the engine, although 20 mins to the local boat ramp was fine.
