General Subaru / Bent rear diff bracket
« on: September 10, 2009, 07:11:31 PM »
Replaced the diff bracket on the Brumby today after changing the oil and noticed it a bit out of shape. It looked like it had been bent for awhile because the rubbers were seriously worn. Not sure what the previous owner was doing but i'm sure it must have been a 4WD incident. Anyone seen this occuring before?
Have a look at the bend it has compared with the replacement one

Offroad / Tyres on 14" sunnies
« on: August 06, 2009, 09:53:13 PM »
I have some 14 inch sunraisier rims and am looking at putting them on my brumby for semi offroad use. Currently it is at the standard height. Is 195/60/14 the biggest profile I can fit without scrubbing at standard height?
Is there any offroad tyres I can get that will fit for the standard height?

I do plan on getting a lift kit eventually but just want something semi offroad for now

General Subaru / Converting to a Manual Transmission
« on: June 25, 2009, 12:02:10 PM »
I am getting ready to convert my Subaru wagon to a manual transmission. I bought an engine and gearbox from a brumby so I am going to replace the whole lot as my engine's looking a little sad with oil leaks and bearing noise.
I currently have the 3.7 ratio diff in the wagon and want to know what ratio the planned transmission is so i can match them. Is it possible to identify the ratio from the transmission number sticker on the bellhousing?

The diff I currently have in my wagon

The transmission I plan on using

I also have access to another transmission and diff from a donor wagon if the ratio isn't right that i already have in the wagon. Unfortunetly the sticker has been removed from the diff to indicate the ratio. Is there another way of identifying the ratio?

General Subaru / Setting digital dash clock
« on: June 03, 2009, 10:42:07 AM »
I have my clock set to the correct time on my digital dash but am just wondering if anyone knows how to stop the little AM/PM sign flashing?
I have tried the usual of holding down set and the hour buttons etc but had no luck. It doesn't matter too much but its been a year now of flashing and it can get annoying at night.

General Subaru / Front disc brake piston wind back tool
« on: May 14, 2009, 10:22:39 PM »
After buying new front brake pads for my wagon and making a start on pulling the brakes down to replace the pads I decided I should have a quick look in the workshop manual to make sure I was going about it the right way.
It said I needed a piston wind back tool to turn the piston in clockwise as to reset the parking brake to suit the thicker pads. I noticed on the end of the piston it has two notches to fit a tool to wind it back.
I went into Repco to see if they had a tool listed. They didn't have a Subaru specific tool listed but they did have a universal cube style one so I bought that. It was $20 so I thought it was worth a try.

Has anyone else come across this?

General Subaru / 15" alloy Subaru wheels
« on: May 05, 2009, 08:53:41 PM »
I have been offered a set of 15" genuine subaru alloy wheels with tyres for $400. I know this is pretty cheap so I think I will get them but i'd just like to know how this is going to affect my speedo/engine revs.
He also told me that the subaru's came out with 14's standard in every other country other than Australia and that is why our speedo's are so far out and we have such high engine revs when doing 100km/h.

Offroad / Lifting! How high can I go before engineering
« on: May 05, 2009, 08:47:25 PM »
I am considering a lift kit for my 83 touring wagon. I was thinking either 2 or 3 inch lift kit. I'd like the 3 inch if possible but am I able to do this with it still being legal?
I live in NSW and i'd like to know if anyone else has been through this or knows the legalities. I haven't been to ask the RTA because I thought i'd try here first as i'd probably get a better response.

Classifieds / Crashed subaru - I need parts
« on: April 07, 2009, 11:30:43 AM »
Unfortunately I managed to crash my subaru wagon into a tree while out in the mud and rain this morning.
I need:
- LHF guard (maybe, I might be able to fit the guard off my spare subbie)
- LHF headlight surround (plastic)
- LHF headlight mounting (metal)
- LHF outer headlight low beam/high beam
- bottom indicator (fits into bumper)
- bumper bar (maybe, I might be able to fit the bullbar off my spare subbie)

Does anyone know if the guard from a sports wagon (single headlights) will fit my touring wagon (quad headlights)? Also is the bullbar off the sports wagon likely to fit?

Classifieds / Wrecking an EA81 wagon
« on: April 04, 2009, 12:16:07 PM »
I have a 1983-84 EA81 sports wagon I am wrecking. I bought it for the engine which is now gone.
If there are any parts that people want just let me know. It has the single headlights which are no use to me as I have the quad lights. There are a few indicators and side lights etc. The shell is rather rusty but doors etc might be useful. It has wind up windows. None of the dash components like guages are any use to me as i have a digital dash.
